A policeman was said to have been invited to the house
and he punished Yahaya severely for threatening to kill the mother, with Yahaya promising to surprise them.
According to police information, the deceased, dressed in a pair of jeans trousers with a white cardigan, hanged himself with a skipping rope fastened to a wooden brace of their building roofing, about 9feets 7 inches above the ground, after a purported constant misunderstanding between him and the mother.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra, pending autopsy.
Kojo Prepeh, a driver’s mate and relative of the deceased, told DAILY GUIDE that at about 4:30am that fateful day, when he returned home after passing the night in a commercial vehicle, he spotted the deceased hanging in front of their house.
“I raised the alarm by screaming and woke all occupants of our house who were then fast asleep and they came out of their various rooms to see Yahaya hanging,” he noted.
Confidence Amponsah explained that her son’s death came as a surprise to her and family, as well as the residents of the area who knew him.
She described Yahaya as a good and quiet person, noting that on Tuesday, he apologized to her for his rude attitude towards her when he demanded his share of his father’s property.
Earlier, when DAILY GUIDE got to the scene, scores of people from the area and beyond had trooped to the scene to catch a glimpse of the deceased, with some relations seen wailing and consoling each other.
Some family members tried using cloths to prevent people from taking pictures of the deceased before the arrival of the police.
At the time DAILY GUIDE was leaving the scene, police personnel from the Community 22 Police Station, Tema, led by Chief Inspector Benjamin Okai, station officer, had arrived and conducted investigations before conveying the body to the Police Hospital morgue in Accra.
John Dacosta, assembly member for Nii Amui Electoral Area in which the incident took place, described the incident as unfortunate, admonishing the citizenry, especially the youth, to depend on God.
